Goya Foods Announces Promotions in Senior Management
- Peter J. Unanue Named Executive Vice President
- Joseph F. Perez to Serve as Senior Vice President
Mr. Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods, Inc., the nation's largest Hispanic-owned food company, proudly announces the advancement of two of the company's senior executives. Effectively immediately, Mr. Peter J. Unanue will assume expanded responsibilities as Executive Vice President and Mr. Joseph Perez will take on the oversight for purchasing and marketing as Senior Vice President. "I am especially pleased to announce these promotions of members within the Goya Family as both Peter and Joe have excelled at the challenges presented to them in their former positions" stated Mr. Bob Unanue. Both executives will work from Goya's offices and facilities in Secaucus, New Jersey.
As is customary within the family-owned company, both Mr. Perez and Mr. Unanue have distinguished themselves by their long-term service within the corporation. Prior to joining Goya, Peter Unanue honed his skills as a Project Manager at Merck-Medco Managed Care and at Baxter Healthcare where he optimized shipping routes for the company's Northern California and New Jersey/New York regions. Peter joined Goya and was named Director of Distribution in 1997 and in 2001 was promoted to Vice President of Distribution and Logistics. Under his leadership, Goya has implemented an automated routing system for customer deliveries at all distribution centers. In his newly-expanded role, Mr. Unanue will not only continue to oversee all logistical operations for Goya's fourteen facilities and distribution centers throughout the U.S., but will play a significant role in the overall management of the company's operations. "I couldn't be prouder of the work that Peter has done for Goya, his efforts have been crucial to the company as we have embarked on the largest expansion in our history," continued Mr. Bob Unanue.
Peter Unanue holds a master's degree in Operations Research from The George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Saint Thomas Aquinas College. "I am deeply honored to contribute to the success of Goya Foods and its legacy of quality and service," stated Mr. Peter Unanue.
Similarly, Mr. Joseph F. Perez began his career at Goya as an import clerk in 1974, becoming Purchasing Director in 1983 and Vice President of Purchasing in 1993. Within this role, Mr. Perez assumed responsibility for all aspects of product development including quality assurance and inventory control. In 2002 his role was expanded to include oversight of Goya en España. "Joe's sustained effort on our company's behalf has allowed Goya Foods to expand its product line to well over 1,500 products representing the best and most authentic foods Latin America has to offer. In addition to his business acumen, Joe brings his vast knowledge of Hispanic culture and food to our organization," enthused Mr. Unanue.
Mr. Perez, in the newly-created position of Senior Vice President, will continue his oversight of the Purchasing Division, Goya's operations in Europe and will lead marketing, sales and advertising for the Hispanic food leader. Mr. Perez is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he received a BA in History and attended New York University Graduate School where he pursued studies in International Relations. "I am privileged to be part of such a dynamic organization. Goya instills a strong sense of pride and joy; it is an honor and thrill to continue participating in new projects and future successes," said Mr. Perez.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary, Goya Foods is undergoing an unprecedented growth cycle in the company's history with the creation of new, state-of-the-art production facilities and distribution centers opening throughout the continental United States as well as the Caribbean and Europe. These efforts are poised to increase Goya's distribution and manufacturing capacity by over 1 million square feet within the next three years. Additionally, the company will continue to expand product lines to satisfy the ever-changing needs of the growing Latino and non-Latino markets. "Goya Foods realizes that a key ingredient to our success and growth is the hard work and dedication of its management team. The promotions of Peter Unanue and Joe Perez reflect their stellar contributions to our company as well as Goya's commitment to sustain its excellence within the Latin American food industry." concluded Mr. Unanue.
