Goya Foods Opens 2008 Season with the Houston Astros
-Goya Offers Latin American Favorites to Fans
April 21, 2008 – Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States is bringing the taste of Latin America to Minute Maid Park this season, as it sponsors a new concession stand this year in the Main Concourse area behind Home Plate. The three-year sponsorship includes the Goya Baseball Shuffle video feature, a Houston fan favorite; the new ‘Goya Latin Café’, Latino food concession stand featuring food made with Goya products and ingredients, and sampling promotions throughout the season. This endeavor is indicative of the growing popularity of Latino food and its culture in all aspects of the American experience. “We are thrilled to be a sponsor of the Houston Astros and prouder still to introduce Latin American food to local fans.’ We started last year in New York with our “Salsa On the Go at Yankee Stadium and are thrilled to develop this concept in Houston with the Astros. Given the tremendous contributions that Latino players and their fans have made to America’s favorite past-time, the pairing of Latino food with baseball is a home run,” stated Robert Unanue, President of Goya Foods.
As a leader in the Latin American food industry, Goya continues to be at the forefront in introducing Latino food to America. “Throughout the United States, Latino culture has become an integral part of the American experience. We have found that people are eager to learn about all things Latino – be it music, dance and most especially food! Our new food concession in Minute-Maid Park “Goya Latin Cafe” is a response to this consumer demand,” stated Evelio Fernandez, Vice President Goya Foods of Texas and General Manager Goya Foods of California.
The Goya Latin Café at Minute Maid Park is located in the middle of the ballpark’s busy Main Concourse just behind Home Plate. The new Goya Latin Café gives the cozy corner of the ballpark a new feel and taste of Latin America with appropriate décor to resemble a Latin American Plaza where fans can be treated to a variety of freshly prepared Latin American favorites, made with Goya products and ingredients, including Cuban sandwiches with Plantain Chips, Chicken in Chipotle Sauce with Rice and Beans, Beef Picadillo, Sweet Plantains and convenient and tasty to-go Flan (carmel custard). “We are excited about our new and growing relationship with Goya. With such a great brand presence in The United States where the Latino population continues to set new records, Latino food and Goya’s presence at Minute-Maid Park is only natural,” said Rosi Hernández, Houston Astros Vice President of Market Development.
“The Houston Astros symbolize excellence and tradition. Goya Foods, founded over 72 years ago, have always embraced these two concepts in its mission to bring America’s families the highest quality authentic Latin American cuisine. Our sponsorship of the Houston Astros and the inauguration of “Goya’s Latin Cafe” food concession is a great opportunity to give our loyal consumers, and new fans alike, the food they love, while enjoying a winning season” concluded Mr. Unanue.
