When It Comes to Rice, Goya Is Numero Uno With New Yorkers

Secaucus, NJ (August 23, 2004) - By securing the #1 SKU with Goya Yellow Rice Mix in the New York market, Goya Foods, the leading Hispanic food company in the U.S., continues to outpace its competitors. Two other Goya Rice Mixes are in the Top Ten category, according to the AC Nielsen Strategic Planner issued in August.

For the fifth consecutive year GOYA Rice Mixes overall has increased its growth share from 13.6% to 16.4%. Goya’s sales have grown by 2% while the overall category has experienced a 3% decline. Goya Mexican Rice Mix is also in the Top Ten category.

"Goya Rice Mixes are in popular demand because they deliver a superior quality that enables everyone to enjoy authentic Latino cuisine." said Conrad Colon, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Goya Foods, Inc. "These numbers demonstrate the popularity of Goya with New Yorkers. Goya is proud to offer the best rice mixes on the market today."

Goya Yellow Rice is a Latin classic that is delicious, easy and versatile. It consists of seasoned Goya rice simmered in a blend of onion, garlic, spices, rich chicken flavor and coriander. The other 23 SKUs are available in delectable combinations such as the Rice & Red Beans Rice Mix, a flavorful combination of long grain rice with red beans simmered in onions, peppers and subtle spices, and Mexican Style Rice Mix, whole kernels of corn, bell pepper, onion, garlic and tasty bits of jalapeño in a mix of Goya long grain rice rich with chicken flavor.

This year alone, Goya launched 62 new products, including the latest Spanish rice mix introduced this past April. Goya Rice Mixes, available in 16 varieties, can be found at grocery stores across the country for the average suggested retail price of $1.59 for a 16-ounce package.
